Today was my first day at work as a REU. I love it! My mentor / partner is a first year graduate student from Mount Holyoke. Her name is Ying. She is trying endlessly to teach me free radical polymerization. Fun... I have to learn it soon because I find out what I'm working on Wednesday. I may either be making a surface with Ying or making my own molecule. This is going to be interesting. I would really like to work with Ying on the whole surface thing because it makes more sense in my mind. But, whatever. I have a breakfast to attend tomorrow at 9 AM. I really don't want to wake up that early again. lol. I'm lazy... I know. Yeah, so I got a lab coat and a lab station and they are ordering me prescription goggles. This is awesome. I'm going to eventually have to give a presentation of my finding and what not, so I'm a bit nervous about that partner. I hate talking in front of a crowd, which is weird. I'm such a social person and I'm very outgoing... but I hate talking in front of group of people. Which I guess a lot of people hate doing, but I really hate it! Well I was off by one and I managed to meet Tiffany and Rachel at H.O.T. I didn't eat anything because I had previously ate with all the REU's in Coughlin's group. But we talked for a while and it was nice to see that Rachel is still...well Rachel. Now I"m at home procrastinating. I have three books and enough readings to last me a month...but it has to be done in like a week. So yeah... I should be reading. It's nice to get paid for using your brain instead of cleaning up after people. Hhhhmmm... I wonder how many people at work on Saturday are going to hate me for telling them about my new job. Saturday will be my last day. As Mr. Stafursky puts it, "But you still have one day of purgatory left..." Yeah I do. Thanks for reminding me. I hope I don't have a horrible day on Saturday. But I'm guessing I should go read and learn about ATRP (Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization) Fun fun fun! Leave some love.
